Kings XI Punjab finally tasted success in the IPL 5 when they defeated Pune Warriors by 7 wickets with 14 balls to spare at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. It was a low scoring contest with the pitch turning out to be a spicy one on which the ball kicked up nastily for the seamers. Dimitri Mascarenhas used the conditions perfectly to take as many as five wickets to help the hosts bowl out Pune Warriors to 115 in 19 overs. He got the Man of the Match for setting up Kings XI Punjab towards a victory.
The top scorer for Pune Warriors was Mithun Manhas with 31 (from 28 balls with 3 fours and a six). It wasn’t going to be an easy chase for the Kings XI Punjab as Pune had two quality fast bowlers in Ashok Dinda and Ashish Nehra. However, Shaun Marsh controlled their innings to come up with an unbeaten 64 (from 54 balls with 7 fours and a six) to steer Kings XI Punjab to their maiden win of this season after two straight defeats.
